The Brighton company is a separate division of Leegin Creative Leather Products, which itself is based in City of Industry, CA. The people of Leegin have found themselves manufacturing belts and many other leather accessories at their California based factory for over 30 years. They have also expanded from the original shop within which they worked with only 5 employees and moved to a more technologically advanced plant that now employs over 600 people. The components that they use to produce their goods come from a variety of places. Some are made internationally from such locations as Italy, China, Korea, France, Spain, Taiwan, and Japan.
During late 1999, the owner and president of Brighton, Jerry Kohl, began to recognize the potential of Brighton. He thought that his company had national appeal to both consumers and mall developers and that offering Brighton Luggage and their many other accessories and items would be a huge opportunity that should not be overlooked. Adding to a few existing licensees, he also opened his first company owned store in the city of Sherman Oaks, CA. Even though they can now benefit from having 150 stores located throughout the United States, they also have made plans to open 10-20 more stores each year.
